Kalpana Dance Theatre (KDT), renowned for Bharatanatyam and Odissi in the Klang Valley, is set to present its 22nd original Odissi production.
Titled, The Call of the Flute, the performance will be staged on November 25 2023 at the Shantanand Auditorium, Temple of Fine Arts, Kuala Lumpur.
The performance marks KDT’s first major original production since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Call of the Flute is choreographed by acclaimed India-based Odissi exponent Leena Mohanty and will showcase Lord Krishna’s mesmerizing tale through the two-thousand-year-old Indian dance form.
The music, by Odissi virtuoso Dheeraj Kumar Mohapatra, will accompany a cast of 75 dancers aged 4 to 40. The performance is also a collaboration between KDT, Vehaara Arts, and the House of Isai Heritaj.
Audience members will get to experience Krishna’s allure as his flute enchants damsels and brings Vrindavan alive. Call Of The Flute aims to foster art accessibility, especially for young talents.
Call Of The Flute will be staged at Shantanand Auditorium at the Temple of Fine Arts, Brickfields in Kuala Lumpur on November 25 2023 at 8 pm. You can contact Shobita (013-247 2045) or Shangita (017-672 5672) for invites.
