Reimagining the Mundane: Tan Choon Ting’s ‘100 Beams of Time’

Malaysian emerging artist, Tan Choon Ting views the world through a kaleidoscopic lens, in which nothing is pedestrian. His solo exhibition, ‘100 Beams of Time’ encapsulates his attempt to capture our surroundings on a deeper level and add impact to its dimensions.

Choon Ting, who graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art (Hons.) from Taiwan National Changhua University of Education in 2018, distinguished himself by securing the Grand Award in 2016 and the Outstanding Award in 2017 during the faculty exhibition.

The Johor born-artist has also had two prior exhibitions; ‘1000 Years on Earth’ (2022), and ‘1 Day in Heaven’ (2021) both at Suma Orientalis Fine Art, Malaysia.

Suma Orientalis Fine Art, in a recent press release, highlighted the remarkable depth of Tan Choon Ting’s artistic genius.

“Tan Choon Ting’s unparalleled creativity and visionary representation of his surroundings resurge with a more
profound impact, delving into meanings beyond the canvases. Through this rendition of sparse elements, we aim to unveil the intended meanings conveyed through the paintings. The significance of the paintings becomes evident through the constituents of the brushstrokes, portraying clarity and resilience.”

The gallery also commended Tan Choon Ting for his ability to craft a unique artistic universe that delves into the interplay between spiritual curiosity and daily life, all while adding a touch of humor to enhance its relatability.

Tan Choon Ting’s captivating exhibition titled, ‘100 Beams of Time’  will be held at Suma Orientalis Fine Art, The Five @ KPD, B-3a-1, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur, starting October 14th, 2023 until November 19th, 2023.
