Prepare to discover the hidden drama in your daily life with Drama In A Snap, the latest production of Checkpoint Theatre, a Singaporean theatre company.
They have dived into the strange and beautiful realm of Snapchat Lens in partnership with BBH Singapore to deliver you an interactive and fascinating theatrical experience.
Drama In A Snap was created within Snapchat’s Lens Studio by BBH Singapore’s Innovation Lab. It is extremely user-friendly.
To reveal the amazing narrative concealed around you, simply point your camera at any object and tap the screen. Using object recognition technology and a neural network, this filter transforms commonplace objects into sources of drama, leaving you captivated and wanting more.
Imagine snapping your morning coffee cup and being whisked away to a world of caffeine-hungry zombies. Or taking a random car from the street and uncovering a dark and intriguing narrative hidden beneath its surface. As Drama In A Snap reveals its inner thoughts about you, even your beloved cat has secrets to disclose.
The possibilities are unlimited with over 500 stories handpicked and authored by brilliant human writers. The best part? The filter is constantly evolving, learning to recognise new items and growing its repertory.
Faith Ng, Associate Artistic Director at Checkpoint Theatre, believes that storytelling is a universal language and that everyone has the power to be a storyteller.
“We believe that everyone is a storyteller at heart and that there is power in telling and owning our own Singapore stories. We loved the idea of revealing the stories that lie within mundane, everyday settings – the drama in a sandwich or a cup of tea – which reflects the way Checkpoint Theatre tells everyday stories, for everyone, so they feel seen, heard, and represented,” she said.
According to Sascha Kuntze, Chief Creative Officer of BBH Singapore, this partnership calls into question the notion of artificial intelligence (AI) replacing artists.
“In a year where the dominant conversation has been about the danger of A.I. replacing artists, this collaboration demonstrates how A.I. – in this case, neural network-powered computer vision – can help give artists a new avenue to share their work with the world.”
Launched on June 13, 2023, Drama In A Snap aims to promote Checkpoint Theatre’s 2023 season.
