The first ever Canon Short Film Contest 2023 is calling for submissions from all aspiring filmmakers and content creators in Malaysia.
This open call is a shout out to all Malaysians, 18 years and above, to showcase their story-telling through film, around the theme of “Harmony in Diversity”.
The contest is open to camera and smartphones users.
President and CEO of Canon Marketing Malaysia, Shunji Yoshikai said the contest is based on the company’s philosophy of “Kyosei” (co-living) and echoes the Canon brand’s dedication to nurturing local creative talents. The initiative is also a proactive step by the company to engage and nurture talent within the local film industry.
“We eagerly await the video entries from burgeoning Malaysian filmmakers, as they depict their interpretations of ‘Harmony in Diversity’ through visual storytelling.
It leverages the power of visual storytelling to unite individuals while celebrating their distinct perspectives, cultures, and backgrounds.” said Shunji.
The contest, which accepts entries starting 1st September 2023 until 15 October 2023, also has the endorsement of Tourism Malaysia.
“Every facet of our nation holds its own beauty. From architectural marvels to natural biodiversity, coupled with a unique blend of culture and heritage, Malaysia is a vibrant canvas for those who express themselves through a camera lens. Through this competition, Tourism Malaysia is thrilled to witness aspiring filmmakers capturing the essence of our homeland through their creative lenses,” said Dato’ Dr. Ammar Abd.
