Meet legendary Malaysian cartoonists in Ipoh this weekend!

Ipoh has been heating up with art this week, full of activities organised by The Other Fest 2017.

If you’re in Ipoh and didn’t know, (well you should now!), check out the sexy stuff happening around that Concubine Lane area, near that awesome spot known as [email protected] Heng.

This Saturday, which is tomorrow lah, Sharpened Word is also having a session where you can meet Hassan Muthalib  and Lat, who needs little introduction to most Malaysians, since his comics, The Kampung Boy are widely known and loved in the country.

For those who need a refresher on who Hassan is, you simply need to click play on the video above.

Meanwhile, Azmi Hussin the cartoonist who got into the Malaysian Book of Records for drawing the most number of caricatures in 24 hours, is also expected to be part of the session, to discuss cartoons, caricature and animation.

“This is a rare chance to witness three heavyweights sitting together and sharing on topics that are the passions close to their hearts. There will no doubt be a sparkle of creativity and ideas to amuse and amaze the crowd. We encourage the audience to take this rare opportunity to mingle and interact with the speakers, tap their brains and celebrate the beauty of art and creativity together,” Sharpened Word says in their promotion of the event which takes place at the Old Andersonian’s Club at 2pm until 5pm.

There will also be a special auction of autographed caricature prints by Azmi Hussin depicting Lat, Hassan Muthalib and himself. You simply must be there to see this ambidextrous artist in action (he can bloody draw your caricature with both hands at the same time in less than a minute!).

Azmi will also be selling his latest comic, Lost in Bagan at Sharpened Word tomorrow.

The bid is expected to start at RM150 and the proceeds will benefit future initiatives by Sharpened Word, in their aim to support art and education beyond the classroom.

Awesomely, it’s also been two years since the first Sharpened Word session in Ipoh, which takes place every third Saturday each month. They’re commemorating the anniversary with a guest appearance by Perak Menteri Besar, Zambry Abd Kadir.

Check out the video to see the wonderful local writers and artists, who have joined their forum.

One thing special about Sharpened Word are the captions for the photos uploaded onto their Facebook page after every event.

It’s never dull reading through them and you got to give it up to the administrator of the page for his or her lightbulb moments.

It certainly adds colour to Ipoh.

Run by Peter Bucher fondly known as Pak Peter and his team, Sharpened Word is a platform for local poets, writers, artists and even filmmakers to share their work to the people of Ipoh.

Heck, it is one of the handful of artsy event that takes place in this town on a monthly basis. Eksentrika wishes the good people at Sharpened Word a Happy Birthday and here’s to more amazing stuff from you guys!
