Rockers and headbangers, this one’s for you!
The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) and The Actors Studio are proud to present their first rock concert in three years.
Rewind, an unplugged offshoot of its wildly successful Let’s Rock series, is set to rock the stage from 18 to 22 August 2022 at Pentas 2, klpac.
It’s time to relive your wild teenage years! Dig out your favourite band’s T-shirt and come sing and scream at top of your lungs to mega rock hits from the 90s to the early 2000s. It will serve up the best of the best from alternative legends to grunge rockers as well as some of the top names from the heydays of the rock era.
Like most music fans, Rewind Director Ian Chow filled his Walkman, then Discman and, finally, mp3 player with rock anthems.
He shared, “We are beyond excited to finally bring Rewind to audiences after three years of planning. The set is like a soundtrack to my teenage years and it has given me a chance to relive that turbulent period filled with lots of ups and downs, angst and also great memories.
He added, “This will be the first time I will be transforming Pentas 2 into an arena staging where the audiences will be seated in the round and the performers are right smack in the middle. Music lovers can enjoy the rock concert vibes but in an intimate and safe way. I am looking forward to the challenge and to see the audience’s reaction.”
Rewind welcomes back Let’s Rock headliner, Fuad Alhabshi of Kyoto Protocol, along with vocalists – Priscillia Xavier, Kirsten Long, Evan Cheah and the baby of the group, 18-year-old Cynthia Gan.
They will be accompanied by a 4-piece acoustic band comprising music director cum pianist Jacqueline Teng, guitarist Jeremy James Kong, drummer Alex Lee and bassist Timothy Voo as well as cellist Eugene Chong.
Besides the exciting line-up and unique layout, Rewind boasts another interesting feature. Much like two sides to a tape, there will be two programmes performed back to back in one night but sold separately. Audiences can pick one which features 13 songs in each or both programmes making it a 26-song marathon.
Programme A is a homage to female rockers and bands including Alanis Morisettes, Avril Lavigne, Evanescence, Hole, Joan Osborne, Natalie Imbruglia, No Doubt, Paramore, Sixpence None The Richer, Sheryl Crow, The Cardigans, The Cranberries and, Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Meanwhile, Programme B on the other hand serves up hits by male-fronted bands like Blur, Counting Crows, Greenday, Hoobastank, Nirvana, Oasis, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chilli Pepper, REM, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, U2 and Verve Pipe.
This show is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and MACP.
Tickets for Rewind are priced at RM65 for one programme and RM100 for two Programmes (A+B) of any show date combination. Tickets can be purchased online here.
