If everyone in the world were just like me;
Born with two left legs-
There would be no dance floors,
to swivel and turn in a tango,
to work the steps for a ballet Assemblé,
to perform the Bharatanatyam or the Zapin.
If everyone in the world were just like me;
Born with no vocal talent-
There would be no one to sing a lullaby to the little ones,
No Bob Marley to sing the ‘Songs of Freedom’,
No Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Sudirman or Siti Nurhaliza!
If everyone in the world were just like me;
Being law abiding citizens-
There would be no police stations,
Obviously no police officers;
defence councillors and
even a magistrate to administer justice.
If everyone in the world were just like me;
Being plain pussyfoots-
There would be no one to contest an oppression,
No one to point out the rights and the wrongs,
No Martin Luther King to deliver “I have a dream”,
No Charles de Gaulle, Ghandi, Suu Kyi or Pak Sako!
Heretofore, was I not grateful?
I know now why not everyone in the world is like me.
Perhaps it’s time for me to listen to a cappella to uplift my soul!
