Every gasp of you
is caramel
radiating from a golden heater lamp,
wafts of warm candy floss,
or bits of black bakkwa edge
my tongue clamps
against the roof of my mouth
stingy with the crumbs
of seconds that it has
until the minute melts
and all that’s left
is a marmalade memory
in my breath.
