Derived from the Malay language, the word ‘Mahasuri’ encapsulates profound significance, combining ‘Maha,’ meaning ‘great,’ with ‘Suri,’ signifying ‘woman.’ Rooted in legend, Mahasuri echoes the story of a legendary woman, Mahsuri, from Langkawi.
In light of this spirit, on October 29, 2023, the Monét at Melawati was graced by the essence of ‘MAHASURI,’ an event organised by Freedom A(R)T Home Fest and JEBON, supported by Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) to celebrate Malaysian female creatives.
This vibrant gathering at ‘MAHASURI’ unfolded as a splendid tapestry of creative expressions and cultural immersion, celebrating womanhood.
Poet Kimchi Lai’s mesmerizing verses intertwined with the evocative strokes of fine artist Mairul Nisa Malek, enriching the ambiance.
Feminist poet Pavithrah Sambu and Cahaya Jais moved hearts with their resonating poetry, while the enchanting melodies of vocalist Elly Yusni, folk-rock duo SATWO, and Takahara Suiko filled the air with captivating tunes.
Celebrating art, poetry, and creativity, ‘MAHASURI’ emerged not just as an event but as a cultural junction, melding diverse artistic dimensions.
With forums, exhibitions, and a spectrum of artisanal crafts, it served as a colourful tribute to creativity and cultural heritage, imprinting a lasting memory on all attendees.
