Joanne Kam’s KAM MY WAY is a special show by the Malaysian comedian as it’ll give her fans an intimate and humorous insight into her 30-year journey in comedy.
“This show is special because I will be telling my truth about how I first started in comedy. It is also an intimate look into my private life as a young 20-year-old girl navigating life in the world of cabaret, comedy, and entertainment, managing as a single mother in the entertainment world without any support, as well as surviving as an artiste through COVID,” Joanne said.
KAM MY WAY is a collaboration between Joanna Kam, theatre director and performer, Tung Jit Yang, and actor, writer, theatre director, and filmmaker, Gavin Yap.
Jit Yang was previously Director-in-Residence at The Actors Studio Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre and currently teaches at Taylor’s University’s Bachelors in Performing Arts programme. His works have been presented in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and abroad in Indonesia, Russia, and Japan. He is also a member of Malaysia’s longest-running improv comedy
troupe, Artificially Intelligent: Improvholics Anonymous (AIIA).
Meanwhile, Gavin is best known for directing The Homecoming, Endgame, 4.48 Psychosis, and the late Jit Murad’s Gold Rain & Hailstones in 2019. He also directed the award-winning Take Me To Dinner and The Incredibly Strange Tale Of The Man Who Lost His Love But Bought It Back With A Packet Of Duck Rice. He also wrote and co-directed Revenge Of The Pontianak,
with acclaimed Singapore filmmaker, Glen Goei. His next film, Geng Kubur, is scheduled for release in 2024.
Joanne Kam’s KAM MY WAY will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Kuching, Sarawak between September and October 2023. Here’s a breakdown of the show dates:
“It is a poignant landmark for me to be still doing this at 50, and remembering how I started out in comedy when there were no words to describe how my life would shape up. I started performing stand-up comedy at the Boom Boom Room (BBR) Singapore with the iconic comedian, Kumar, in 2021. Then I moved to KL to open BBR in Kuala Lumpur and Babylon Boom Boom in Penang,” Joanne revealed.
Sweetening the tour is Joanne’s collaboration with local ice cream maker, Licky Chan in the creation of a brand new limited-edition ice cream flavour inspired by the comedian. The flavour, soon to hit the country at all Licky Chan’s outlets, will also be available at the Kam My Way shows.
