Hastur Films, a young Malaysian production company based in Kuala Lumpur, has just launched a crowdfunding campaign for their new project. SCRAP METAL.
Scrap Metal is a science fiction web series set in a world in which the atomic aftermath has plunged mankind into a kind of new Dark Age. The series consists of standalone episodes that interconnect the paths of different survivors and their day-by-day struggle for survival.
Halfway between science fiction, grimdark and cosmic horror, Scrap Metal aims to offer something unlike anything seen before in the local fantastic films: true humanity. The story is set in the former South East Asia territories (Called now “The Radiant Lands”) where a suffocating and visceral jungle has taken over the old cities.
The guys of Hastur Films have developed what they call “Jungle-Punk”, a thrilling new genre that combines untamed wilderness with the anarchist spirit of punk culture and futuristic technology in an explosive fusion where makeshift weapons meet tribal face paint.
In their universe, survival has become an art of self-expression, and tribes of daring individuals forge unique alliances to navigate the untamed wilds and chaotic cityscapes. This South East Asian wasteland is a radioactive labyrinth of vines and decomposing trees, full of poisonous vermin.
They are aiming to raise RM286K to produce the full season (RM 30K/Episode). Their Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign is now live: check it out here.
