Vimala Perumal, PTech., PhD. was a Yayasan TM alumni whom graduated from Multimedia University in the field of Film and Animation in 2004. She has worked on several independent short films and feature films throughout her career. Her work received wide acclaim and was screened at International Film Festivals in recognition of their comical relay of the Indian life in Malaysia.

Her debut short film was in competition and screened at the 30th Busan International Short Film Festival in Korea. Dr. Vimala’s debut feature film entitled “Vilaiyaatu Pasange” (Playful Folks) had a successful run at the International Screens, GSC in 2011.

In 2020 , her third feature film, Vedigundu Pasangge, became the first-ever Malaysian Tamil movie to surpass the 1 million collection mark. The film also won the award for Best Film at the Norway Tamil Film Festival and received the Special Jury Award in the 30th Malaysian Film Festival. “Vetti Pasanga” was her second feature film, and besides winning two Silver Awards at International level, “Vetti Pasanga” also broke the record and received the highest box office collection for Malaysian Tamil Movie under Wajib Tayang Scheme during its release on 2nd January 2014. It is also the first Malaysian Tamil Movie to be aired on ASTRO First. Steering out of the film genre, Dr. Vimala directed her first drama series, “Tamiletchumy” in 2020, which became the highest rated television series in Malaysian history and currently made it’s way to the release of a second season which aired on 12th August 2021.

Dr. Vimala rejoined the academia at her alma mater, MMU as a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Creative Multimedia in Multimedia University, Cyberjaya and currently the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Creative Multimedia (IJCM) under MMU Press.
