Sek Thim is a theatre actor and director based in Penang. He honed his skills on the rehearsal floor in Kuala Lumpur in the early years of his involvement, working extensively with dancer and choreographer, Marion D’Cruz, playwright, Leow Puay Tin and theatre director, the late Krishen Jit.
Sek Thim’s directorial projects span a range of genres, from solo to ensemble work; monologues to musicals, and usually deal with local stories and histories. His last two directorial projects before the pandemic were a Penang-Hokkien play Taijituateow (produced by ZXC Theatre Troupe), performed in both Penang and KL in 2018 and 2019, and Johan Othman’s drama Malam Takdir in 2019.
Sek Thim is a member of Five Arts Centre, a KL-based arts collective. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in ceramics from the University of Notre Dame, U.S.A.
