Most people expect to be showered with gifts on their birthday.
But not Fixi’s Amir Muhammad.
The independent filmmaker turned publisher recently ushered in his 44th birthday with a Facebook post requesting his friends to comment in poems and haikus.
“Today is my birthday. For every person who writes an original poem/pantun/sajak/haiku about this happy occasion as a reply to this post, I will donate RM10 to a local charity of my choice. Deadline is the end of today. Begin!” he said in a post yesterday.
By the end of the day, Amir received some hundred poems – a mix bag of humour to heart warming ones that led him to donate RM 2,640 to Rainbow of Love – Pelangi Kasih.
Rainbow of Love – Pelangi Kasih is run by Jules Ong and his team of dedicated individuals to provide informal education and support for Rohingya refugee children in Malaysia.
I support what Jules Ong and his team have been doing in helping to create a safe & nurturing environment for these most marginalised of people in our country. I encourage you to also help them & any other charity, formal or otherwise, doing good around you. Because we are the world we are the children we are the ones who make a brighter day,” says Amir.
Aside from poems, Amir also received various artworks created by some of his artist friends to celebrate 44th spin around the sun.
What a wonderful way to celebrate an artist and the arts eh? This sets the benchmark peeps!
If you would like to contribute to Rainbow of Love – Pelangi Kasih as well, you can do so directly via Facebook here.
