Set up by the Malaysian government in 2017 to create a “vibrant and sustainable cultural economy for Malaysia”, Cendana offers a range of grants for a diverse discipline of artists and art organisations with the exception of literature (as of 2021).

Unlike Cendana, the funding offered by MyCreative Ventures is pretty significant. The organisation is an investment arm of the Malaysian government with an aim to grow the country’s creative economy.

Who can apply?
Registered companies in the publishing, content creation, design, fashion, and other creative arts business that are looking to expand.

YSD’s funding is unique in that organisations have to use their own money first with the intention to be self-sustainable in the future. Upon acknowledgment of receipts, YSD would then reimburse your organisation’s cost.

While JKKN isn’t providing any financial resources, under its Arts and Culture Entrepreneur Innovation Lab, it trains creatives on ways they can market themselves to hopefully become profitable.

Supported by Astro and Creador Foundation, this fund managed by the Five Arts Centre Malaysia was created to celebrate original Malaysian art. Named after the legendary theatre director, Krishen Jit, the fund has supported over 64 grantees in the span of 15 years (as of 2020).

If you’re a young artist who is daunted when it comes to crowdfunding initiatives and require some guidance, the super nice folks from INXO Arts Fund are your go-to. The arts and culture development platform is open to assist a diverse range of creatives who frequently experiment with diverse art forms and mediums.
*Editor’s Note: As of the time of writing this post, the INXO Arts Fund has been suspended until further notice. We’re still hopeful they’ll make a return, so we’re including them on this list.

If you’re looking to create Socially Engaged Art (SEA) in Japan, the Kawamura Arts and Cultural Foundation is your go-to. The foundation defines SEA as artistic activities that involves communities and societies to deliver some form of change in rules and systems.

Established in 1996 to honour Prince Claus of the Netherlands, the fund supports innovative, high-quality cultural initiatives from around the world. The fund is also suitable for those who’re into protecting and rescuing a particular heritage.
Due to the pandemic, the fund has shifted its focus to support individuals than organisations.
