Malaysian artist, Alya Hatta, marks a milestone with her solo exhibition “Garden of Us” at the CIMB Artober Art & Soul 2023.
Alya, who recently obtained her Masters of Arts (Painting) from the Royal College of Arts, London, will be presenting her work at booth 12 under ZHAN Art | Space.
Her solo exhibition is a significant milestone as it places her on par with accomplished alumni painters like Bridget Riley, Jake and Dinos Chapman, David Hockney OM, and numerous others in the art world.
“We are extremely proud of Hatta for pulling through her postgraduate studies in one of the most prestigious art universities in the world and cementing herself as an artist to be reckoned with. We have been on the journey with Hatta for a couple of years and not only see the growth in her work, we believe that Garden of Us is arguably the best exhibition till date from Hatta. This art fair is important to elevate the art industry in Malaysia and we hope that everyone will be able to view her works at CIMB Artober Art and Soul 2023,” said Desmond Tong, founder and curator of ZHAN Art | Space.
Garden of Us is an intimate collection exploring the connections between bodies and nature, where ecology serves as the common grounds between London and Kuala Lumpur. Unassuming at first glance, the garden facilitates intimate interactions and conversations between individuals, and acts as an extension of what we call home, in a liminal space that exists between the public and the private, the built and natural environment. Like interpersonal relationships, Hatta believes that the garden can only thrive with care and intention to nurture a safe home for people and plants alike.
‘I have always presented works based on my personal experience and memories particularly on community and ecology, at the same time exploring my Southeast Asian identity despite currently residing in South-London. I believe that arts transcend across borders and I attempt to create alternate realities in my work with various materials sourced around me, weaving them together to portray colourful and intimate diasporic human condition artworks,” said Alya.
You can explore Alya’s “Garden of Us” exhibition at Booth 12, MITEC Kuala Lumpur, from October 6th to 8th, and then continue to view it at ZHAN Art | Space from October 10th to November 5th, 2023. Artworks will be available for purchase, with prices starting at RM4,700.
ZHAN Art | Space, along with several other galleries, is gearing up for its return to the second edition of CIMB Artober Art & Soul 2023. This prestigious art fair will run concurrently with CIMB Artober Fashion Week and is slated to occur from October 6th to 8th at MITEC Kuala Lumpur.
